Last October 2016, my family went on a short trip to New York City. I know this post is long overdue but I am finally blogging about my experience to New York City. It took me a while to piece this post together because my memory of my NYC trip is kinda blurry already. My apologies. lol
My visit to NYC was too short. But that just means I will visit the city once again to do what I haven’t done yet. This trip was a teaser of some kind. I mean, I am excited of what else New York has to offer! 🙂
AND THE STORY GOES…
We visited New York City on Canadian Thanksgiving, it was long weekend and the only time all of us had a time off. We traveled to NYC by car. It was tiring to travel for 8 hours and I feel bad for my brother because he was the only designated driver of the trip.
Note to Self: Next visit, I will travel by plane!! Same cost, less stress.
I still went to class the morning of our travel. My brother and my mom picked me up from school and we went off from there. Our travel began at 10:30 in the morning. By 2-ish in the noon, we stopped over at Henrietta, NY to refuel the car and of course, ourselves. We stayed there for an hour or two so my brother can rest up since he is the only driver we have.
Once recharged, we began our travel again. US Highways are so scary! All you could see was tall trees and greens! It was so dead, it felt like anytime a walker could come out of those trees and eat you alive. Plus, around that time, the scare clown prank was trending and clowns are one of my biggest fears.
Day 0 – October 7, 2016
We arrived at New York City around 9:30-ish PM. But we decided to go for some Jollibee first. We headed straight for Queens, NY to have some #Jollibae! New York is no joke, the drive there took about an hour or more. Pero kung mahal mo, tatahakin mo ang lahat. Charot!
We got back to the city at around 12-ish midnight. We were supposed to check-in at a hotel at the heart of Times Square, we made special arrangements already (because we we’rent sure of the travel time, so we knew we might check in around midnight) but to our dismay, the hotel did not allow it for idk what reason.
All of us were just drained from our travel and wanted to rest. We just cancelled our hotel reservation and looked for a nearby hotel/motel to stay at. We ended up staying at The Roosevelt Hotel – Manhattan, it wasn’t at the heart of Times Square but at least we had a place to stay.
Day 1 – October 8, 2016
Since our hotel did not have a free parking, we had to search around the city for the cheapest parking space for 2 days and a half. Once settled, we walked our way to Times Square! We had breakfast at Tim Hortons (don’t judge, we’re Canadians) and windowed shopping around Times Square! I wanted to shop so bad but that wasn’t my intent on why I visited NYC.
I had a check-list of places to visit in NYC, mostly Gossip Girl shooting places but of course I had to adjust my plans to the likings of my family as well. But…
I vow to be Blair Waldorf on my next visit to New York City!
This trip wasn’t really planned out because I was the assigned planner but I didn’t do my part (whoops!) so we just went were our feet led us to and with that, we landed at the New York Public Library! (We landed at several other places but I can’t fully recall the names) IT WAS SPECTACULAR! I loved the smell of papers! Though there’s not not much sight to see inside, I loved the feel!
After our visit to the library, we decided to chill at the Bryant Park. All those walking around Times Square was tiring. Again, we recharged, we went back to walking our way back to our hotel (we bought metro passes but idk why we were walking lol). We were just supposed to shower up again and just like rest for an hour, but all of us ended sleeping soundly in our beds!
COMIC STORE CHAOS
Even though we slumped on our beds, my brother and I were able to get up at around 6:30 PM to explore NYC. After all, we had limited time to spare. Mom decided to stay at the hotel because the morning walk drained all the energy out of her.
After we prepared ourselves, my brother and I decided to walk around the block. We also decided to visit this comic store that I was dying to visit because I wanted to purchase the S.T.A.R Labs sweatshirt! We were accompanied by Google Maps and walked our way to it because it said it was 15-minute walk.
…but we ended up lost. Reason being? My brother had his phone upside down so we were walking the opposite direction the whole time! Yet, he still decided to walk our way back! I was grumpy the whole time because my legs were wobbly already from all the walking but we were still able to buy the sweatshirt! 😀
And oh, on our way back, we unintentionally walked by Empire State Building! 🙂
